Title
MQTT-C Heap Out-of-Bounds Read and Integer Underflow in mqtt_unpack_publish_response()
Summary
LiamBindle MQTT-C through version 1.1.6 contains a heap-based out-of-bounds read and integer underflow in the mqtt_unpack_publish_response function in src/mqtt.c that allows a remote unauthenticated attacker controlling an MQTT broker - or able to inject MQTT traffic into an unencrypted session - to crash a subscribed MQTT-C client and potentially disclose adjacent heap memory by sending a single crafted PUBLISH packet.

"title": "MQTT-C Heap Out-of-Bounds Read and Integer Underflow in mqtt_unpack_publish_response()",
"x_assigner_notes": "The vulnerable mqtt_unpack_publish_response() body was verified at exactly the v1.1.6 release tag and at master HEAD; the two are byte-identical for this function. The function performs only a \u0027remaining_length \u003e= 4\u0027 fixed-header sanity check (mqtt.c:1349) and then trusts the broker-controlled 16-bit topic_name_size field at mqtt.c:1354 both as a pointer offset (mqtt.c:1357) and as a subtrahend in the unsigned application_message_size computation (mqtt.c:1367/1369). The last commit to LiamBindle/MQTT-C on master is dated 2022-10-27; the project appears unmaintained and no upstream fix is available. defaultStatus is \u0027unknown\u0027 pending vendor confirmation. CVSS 4.0 is scored 8.7 HIGH and CVSS 3.1 is scored 8.2 HIGH, treating the OOB read as VC:L/C:L (limited heap-byte disclosure subject to allocator layout, often masked by the immediately following crash) and the integer-underflow-driven memmove() crash as VA:H/A:H. Mitigation guidance for downstream consumers: validate topic_name_size + 2 + (qos_level \u003e 0 ? 2 : 0) \u003c= remaining_length before using topic_name_size as a pointer offset or as a subtrahend, or migrate to a maintained MQTT client library (e.g. Eclipse Paho MQTT C, libmosquitto).",

Title
Dragonfly: RESTORE operations may crash the server
Summary
Dragonfly is an in-memory data store built for modern application workloads. Prior to 1.39.0, a crafted RESTORE payload triggers an out-of-bounds read in DragonflyDB's listpack collection loaders, crashing the entire server process (SIGSEGV). Because DragonflyDB requires no authentication by default and RESTORE is a normal keyspace command, an unauthenticated remote attacker can crash the server with a single ~24-byte command — a remote, repeatable denial of service. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.39.0.

Title
TeamDavid: Buffer Overflow in 'editini' function
Summary
Tobit Laboratories AG TeamDavid's Webbox application handles password changes using a function triggered by
including the string "(editini)" in the file path, writing the new
password to the specified "Archive.ini" file. However, the application
does not verify that the provided path actually refers to an
"Archive.ini" file. If an attacker specifies a different file with
excessive size, a buffer overflow occurs. This vulnerability allows an
unauthenticated attacker to crash the server, resulting in denial of
service. This issue affects TeamDavid before Rollout 528.
Starting with Rollout 528 (June 30, 2026), the affected functionality is disabled by default and the vulnerabilities are therefore no longer exposed through this functionality.

Title
Pillow: Out-of-bounds read via attacker-controlled row stride on Pillow's mmap path (McIdas AREA files)
Summary
Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to 12.3.0, when Pillow loads an uncompressed McIdas AREA image from a filename through the mmap raw codec path, attacker-controlled header words can set a row stride smaller than the natural row width, causing pixel access such as Image.tobytes(), getpixel, convert, or save to read beyond the mapped region and disclose adjacent process memory or fault. This issue is fixed in version 12.3.0.

Title
Gstreamer1-plugins-ugly-free: gstreamer: out-of-bounds read in realmedia demuxer fileinfo metadata parser
Summary
A flaw was found in GStreamer's RealMedia demuxer in the gst-plugins-ugly package. When processing a RealMedia file containing a specially crafted FILEINFO metadata section, the demuxer parses variable-name and variable-value pairs using re_skip_pascal_string() without validating that offsets remain within the mapped buffer. Additionally, the element count controlling the parsing loop is read from attacker-controlled data without validation, which can cause an infinite loop. A crafted RealMedia file can cause the application to crash, hang, or potentially read limited adjacent memory contents.

Title
Gstreamer1-plugins-ugly-free: gstreamer: out-of-bounds read in realmedia demuxer audio stream header parser
Summary
A vulnerability was found in the GStreamer RealMedia demuxer (gst-plugins-ugly). When processing a RealMedia (.rm) file, the demuxer parses MDPR (media properties) chunks to configure audio streams. For audio stream header versions 4 and 5, the parser reads fields such as codec type, packet size, sample rate, channel count, and extra codec data length from fixed offsets within the chunk without first checking that the chunk contains enough data. If a malicious file provides an MDPR chunk that is too small to contain a complete audio stream header, the parser reads beyond the end of the buffer. This can cause the application to crash. In some cases, bytes read past the buffer boundary may be incorporated into stream metadata, which could result in limited information disclosure.

In some cases, bytes read past the buffer boundary may be incorporated into stream metadata, which could result in limited information disclosure."

Title
libgit2 - Unauthenticated network-reachable heap out-of-bounds read in transports/smart_pkt.c:set_data
Summary
libgit2 is a portable C implementation of the Git core methods provided as a linkable library with a solid API, allowing to build Git functionality into your application. Prior to 1.8.6 and 1.9.5, libgit2 performs a fixed-size strncmp in set_data in src/libgit2/transports/smart_pkt.c without first verifying that the smart-protocol pkt-line capability buffer contains 14 bytes. A malicious Git server can make bytes after the pkt-line complete object-format=, causing format_str to advance beyond the pkt-line and the following memchr length calculation to underflow. The resulting heap out-of-bounds walk can crash a client during the first refs-advertisement packet over HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, or the Git protocol. This issue is fixed in versions 1.8.6 and 1.9.5.

Mitigation MIT-5
Implementation
Strategy: Input Validation
- Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
- When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
- Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
- To reduce the likelihood of introducing an out-of-bounds read, ensure that you validate and ensure correct calculations for any length argument, buffer size calculation, or offset. Be especially careful of relying on a sentinel (i.e. special character such as NUL) in untrusted inputs.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design
Strategy: Language Selection
Use a language that provides appropriate memory abstractions.
CAPEC-540: Overread Buffers
An adversary attacks a target by providing input that causes an application to read beyond the boundary of a defined buffer. This typically occurs when a value influencing where to start or stop reading is set to reflect positions outside of the valid memory location of the buffer. This type of attack may result in exposure of sensitive information, a system crash, or arbitrary code execution.
