A memory leak was found in the Linux kernel's Xen SMP interrupt initialization functions for x86 architectures. When interrupt handler binding fails during setup, the error path frees various resources but neglects to free dynamically allocated interrupt name strings created via kasprintf. This causes memory to leak with each failed initialization attempt, leading to resource exhaustion and denial of service.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cxl/port: Fix delete_endpoint() vs parent unregistration race The CXL subsystem, at cxl_mem ->probe() time, establishes a lineage of ports (struct cxl_port objects) between an endpoint and the root of a CXL topology. Each port including the endpoint port is attached to the cxl_port driver. Given that setup, it follows that when either any port in that lineage goes through a cxl_port ->remove() event, or the memdev goes through a cxl_mem ->remove() event. The hierarchy below the removed port, or the entire hierarchy if the memdev is removed needs to come down. The delete_endpoint() callback is careful to check whether it is being called to tear down the hierarchy, or if it is only being called to teardown the memdev because an ancestor port is going through ->remove(). That care needs to take the device_lock() of the endpoint's parent. Which requires 2 bugs to be fixed: 1/ A reference on the parent is needed to prevent use-after-free scenarios like this signature: BUG: spinlock bad magic on CPU#0, kworker/u56:0/11 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009), BIOS edk2-20230524-3.fc38 05/24/2023 Workqueue: cxl_port detach_memdev [cxl_core] RIP: 0010:spin_bug+0x65/0xa0 Call Trace: do_raw_spin_lock+0x69/0xa0 __mutex_lock+0x695/0xb80 delete_endpoint+0xad/0x150 [cxl_core] devres_release_all+0xb8/0x110 device_unbind_cleanup+0xe/0x70 device_release_driver_internal+0x1d2/0x210 detach_memdev+0x15/0x20 [cxl_core] process_one_work+0x1e3/0x4c0 worker_thread+0x1dd/0x3d0 2/ In the case of RCH topologies, the parent device that needs to be locked is not always @port->dev as returned by cxl_mem_find_port(), use endpoint->dev.parent instead.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vfio/pci: Lock external INTx masking ops Mask operations through config space changes to DisINTx may race INTx configuration changes via ioctl. Create wrappers that add locking for paths outside of the core interrupt code. In particular, irq_type is updated holding igate, therefore testing is_intx() requires holding igate. For example clearing DisINTx from config space can otherwise race changes of the interrupt configuration. This aligns interfaces which may trigger the INTx eventfd into two camps, one side serialized by igate and the other only enabled while INTx is configured. A subsequent patch introduces synchronization for the latter flows.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel’s Netfilter nf_tables module. The issue arises from improper mutex handling during the garbage collection (GC) process. The problem occurs between the critical functions nft_gc_seq_begin() and nft_gc_seq_end(), where a mutex lock is incorrectly released too early, leading to potential race conditions. This issue could allow an asynchronous GC worker to collect expired objects and improperly obtain the released commit lock within the same sequence, potentially causing system instability or data corruption. This vulnerability can be exploited by attackers with local access, leading to unexpected behavior or even privilege escalation under certain conditions. The kernel patch for this issue moves the mutex release to the correct point, ensuring the sequence completes safely before releasing any locks.

CVE-2024-35839 is a flaw in the Linux kernel's Netfilter bridge functionality. It occurs when bridging certain packets, such as those involving destination NAT between virtual Ethernet interfaces. A mismatch between the network device associated with a packet and the neighbor's device can lead to incorrect handling, including references to freed memory. This issue could cause system crashes. The problem has been fixed by using safer methods to retrieve the network device during packet processing. Users should update their kernels to a patched version to avoid this vulnerability.

CVE-2024-35896 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Netfilter component, where the setsockopt function fails to properly validate the length of user-supplied data before copying it into kernel space. This oversight can lead to out-of-bounds memory access, potentially causing system crashes or allowing attackers to execute arbitrary code. The issue has been addressed by implementing appropriate checks on the optlen argument to ensure data is correctly sized before being processed. Users are advised to update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix to mitigate potential risks.

This CVE involves a flaw in the Linux kernel's nf_tables component, part of the Netfilter framework used for packet filtering and firewall functionalities. The vulnerability arises when a table's dormant flag is updated while there's a pending deletion of a base chain. In such cases, the unregistration of hooks is deferred until the commit phase. If both operations—updating the dormant flag and deleting the base chain—are combined, it can result in the base chain being deleted while its hook remains registered in the core system. This inconsistency may lead to unexpected behavior or potential security risks.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: udp: Set SOCK_RCU_FREE earlier in udp_lib_get_port(). syzkaller triggered the warning [0] in udp_v4_early_demux(). In udp_v[46]_early_demux() and sk_lookup(), we do not touch the refcount of the looked-up sk and use sock_pfree() as skb->destructor, so we check SOCK_RCU_FREE to ensure that the sk is safe to access during the RCU grace period. Currently, SOCK_RCU_FREE is flagged for a bound socket after being put into the hash table. Moreover, the SOCK_RCU_FREE check is done too early in udp_v[46]_early_demux() and sk_lookup(), so there could be a small race window: CPU1 CPU2 ---- ---- udp_v4_early_demux() udp_lib_get_port() | |- hlist_add_head_rcu() |- sk = __udp4_lib_demux_lookup() | |- DEBUG_NET_WARN_ON_ONCE(sk_is_refcounted(sk)); `- sock_set_flag(sk, SOCK_RCU_FREE) We had the same bug in TCP and fixed it in commit 871019b22d1b ("net: set SOCK_RCU_FREE before inserting socket into hashtable"). Let's apply the same fix for UDP.
