Vulnerability from csaf_redhat - Published: 2019-06-04 19:10 - Updated: 2024-11-22 13:16
Summary
Red Hat Security Advisory: etcd security, bug fix, and enhancement update
Severity
Moderate
Notes
Topic: An update for etcd is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extras. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Moderate. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section.
Details: The etcd packages provide a highly available key-value store for shared configuration. The following packages have been upgraded to a later upstream version: etcd (3.2.26). (BZ#1676902) Security Fix(es): * etcd: Improper Authentication in auth/store.go:AuthInfoFromTLS() via gRPC-gateway (CVE-2018-16886) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Etcd, versions 3.2.0 through 3.2.25 and 3.3.0 through 3.3.10, are vulnerable to an improper authentication issue when role-based access control (RBAC) is used and client-cert-auth is enabled. If an etcd client server's TLS certificate contains a Common Name (CN) which matches a valid RBAC username, a remote attacker may authenticate as that user with any valid (trusted) client certificate in a REST API request to the gRPC-gateway.

Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
