    Title
Capsule: hostnameRegexHandler.OnUpdate validates stale (old) Tenant regex, allowing invalid AllowedHostnames regex to bypass webhook validation
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. From 0.13.0 until 0.13.7, hostnameRegexHandler.OnUpdate in internal/webhook/tenant/validation/hostname_regex.go reverses the new and old Tenant parameters and validates the previous AllowedHostnames.Regex instead of the submitted value. A cluster administrator can therefore store a malformed AllowedHostnames.Regex after the webhook accepts the update based on stale valid state. Subsequent Ingress creation or update reaches validate_hostnames.go, which evaluates the malformed pattern, ignores the regular-expression error, and treats every hostname as unmatched, blocking Ingress operations for the affected tenant until an administrator repairs the Tenant configuration. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.7.

    Title
Capsule: Malformed ForbiddenAnnotations.Regex can bypass Tenant validation and trigger namespace admission panic
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. From 0.13.0 until 0.13.7, the Tenant update validation in internal/webhook/tenant/validation/forbidden_annotations_regex.go compiles ForbiddenLabels.Regex for both the labels and annotations checks instead of validating ForbiddenAnnotations.Regex. An administrator who can update a Tenant can therefore persist a malformed ForbiddenAnnotations.Regex while leaving the labels expression valid. Namespace creation or update later passes the stored expression through pkg/api/forbidden_list.go, where regexp.MustCompile can panic during forbidden metadata validation and deny namespace operations for the affected tenant. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.7.

    Title
Capsule: Tenant owner bypasses Capsule's forbidden namespace/service/node label and annotation enforcement
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. Prior to 0.13.7, ForbiddenListSpec.ExactMatch in pkg/api/forbidden_list.go sorts denied metadata keys case-insensitively and then uses sort.SearchStrings, which assumes byte-order sorting. When an administrator's forbidden list mixes capitalized and lowercase keys or otherwise has different case-insensitive and byte ordering, the binary search can return false for a key that is present. An authenticated tenant owner can then pass the missed key through api.ValidateForbidden and bypass configured namespace, Service, or delegated node metadata restrictions, potentially influencing cluster policies, network exposure, or scheduling outside the tenant boundary. Uniformly lowercase lists whose two orderings coincide are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.7.

    CVE-2026-55636 (GCVE-0-2026-55636)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-09-15 15:27 – Updated: 2026-09-15 18:02
    VLAI
    Title
Capsule: Incomplete fix of CVE-2026-30963: singular/plural typo leaves namespaces/finalize unprotected
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. From 0.13.0 until 0.13.6, charts/capsule/templates/configuration.yaml configures the validating webhook with namespace/finalize instead of the Kubernetes resource name namespaces/finalize. A user with namespaces/finalize RBAC can send a PUT request to /api/v1/namespaces/{namespace}/finalize, and the singular rule never matches the plural resource, so the validating webhook is not invoked and the user can change the namespace tenant label. matchPolicy: Equivalent does not compensate because it handles API group and version equivalence rather than resource-name errors. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.13.6.

    Title
Capsule: Incomplete fix of CVE-2026-22872: TenantResource RawItems and Generators still allow cluster-scoped resource creation (cross-tenant privilege escalation)
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. From 0.13.0 until 0.13.8, after the incomplete CVE-2026-22872 fix, TenantResource RawItems and Generators in internal/controllers/resources/collect.go, including handleRawItem and handleGeneratorItem, did not apply the ResourceReference.LoadResources and IsNamespacedGVK cluster-scoped resource rejection guard used by NamespacedItems, allowing a Tenant Owner to create cluster-scoped resources such as ClusterRole or ValidatingWebhookConfiguration through the cluster-admin controller client. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.8.

    Title
Capsule: CapsuleConfiguration NodeMetadata regex fields lack webhook validation, allowing MustCompile panic on all Node admission requests
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. Prior to 0.13.8, CapsuleConfiguration.Spec.NodeMetadata.ForbiddenLabels.Regex and CapsuleConfiguration.Spec.NodeMetadata.ForbiddenAnnotations.Regex were not validated by the configuration admission webhook, allowing a Cluster Admin to store a malformed regex that later reached regexp.MustCompile in pkg/api/forbidden_list.go through internal/webhook/node/user_metadata.go and crashed the node admission webhook on Node create, update, or patch requests. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.8.

    Title
    Capsule Namespace Hijacking via subresource
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. To defend against namespace hijacking achieved through update/patch operations on namespaces, Capsule uses a webhook to validate update requests targeting namespaces. However, in Kubernetes, the namespace/finalize and namespace/status subresource APIs can also modify various fields of a namespace, including the metadata field. Prior to version 0.13.0, the webhook does not define interception rules for these subresources. As a result, if a tenant administrator has permission to modify namespace/status or namespace/finalize, they can successfully perform namespace hijacking. Version 0.13.0 fixes the issue. Another mitigation is to add two subresources (namespaces and snamespaces/status with namespace/finalize within it) to the resources list in the ValidatingWebhookConfiguration rules.

    Title
Capsule TenantResource RawItems Cluster-Scoped Resource Creation Vulnerability
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. The Capsule Controller runs with cluster-admin privileges. Although the TenantResource RawItems processing logic forcibly sets the namespace, this is ineffective for cluster-scoped resources. Prior to version 0.13.0, tenant administrators can leverage the Controller's elevated privileges to create cluster-scoped resources (such as ClusterRole and ValidatingWebhookConfiguration) that they cannot create directly, achieving cross-tenant privilege escalation and cluster-level attacks. The attack vector has a few limiting factors. This attack requires Tenant Owner privileges and requires Capsule Controller running with cluster-admin privileges (default configuration). Additionally, some clusters may have additional admission controllers blocking malicious resources. Version 0.13.0 patches this issue.

Although the TenantResource RawItems processing logic forcibly sets the namespace, this is ineffective for cluster-scoped resources. Prior to version 0.13.0, tenant administrators can leverage the Controller\u0027s elevated privileges to create cluster-scoped resources (such as ClusterRole and ValidatingWebhookConfiguration) that they cannot create directly, achieving cross-tenant privilege escalation and cluster-level attacks. The attack vector has a few limiting factors. This attack requires Tenant Owner privileges and requires Capsule Controller running with cluster-admin privileges (default configuration). Additionally, some clusters may have additional admission controllers blocking malicious resources. Version 0.13.0 patches this issue."

    CVE-2025-55205 (GCVE-0-2025-55205)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2025-08-18 16:28 – Updated: 2025-08-18 17:39
    VLAI
    Title
Capsule tenant owners with "patch namespace" permission can hijack system namespaces label
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. A namespace label injection vulnerability in Capsule v0.10.3 and earlier allows authenticated tenant users to inject arbitrary labels into system namespaces (kube-system, default, capsule-system), bypassing multi-tenant isolation and potentially accessing cross-tenant resources through TenantResource selectors. This vulnerability enables privilege escalation and violates the fundamental security boundaries that Capsule is designed to enforce. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.10.4.

    Title
Capsule tenant owner with "patch namespace" permission can hijack system namespaces
    Summary
Capsule is a multi-tenancy and policy-based framework for Kubernetes. In Capsule v0.7.0 and earlier, the tenant-owner can patch any arbitrary namespace that has not been taken over by a tenant (i.e., namespaces without the ownerReference field), thereby gaining control of that namespace. Version 0.7.1 contains a patch.

    CVE-2023-48312 (GCVE-0-2023-48312)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2023-11-24 17:12 – Updated: 2024-08-02 21:23
    VLAI
    Title
Authentication bypass using an empty token in capsule-proxy
    Summary
capsule-proxy is a reverse proxy for the capsule operator project. Affected versions are subject to a privilege escalation vulnerability which is based on a missing check if the user is authenticated based on the `TokenReview` result. All the clusters running with the `anonymous-auth` Kubernetes API Server setting disable (set to `false`) are affected since it would be possible to bypass the token review mechanism, interacting with the upper Kubernetes API Server. This privilege escalation cannot be exploited if you're relying only on client certificates (SSL/TLS). This vulnerability has been addressed in version 0.4.6. Users are advised to upgrade.

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2023-11-06 18:34 – Updated: 2024-08-02 20:37

    Title
Service accounts can see namespaces of other tenants in capsule-proxy
    Summary
capsule-proxy is a reverse proxy for Capsule kubernetes multi-tenancy framework. A bug in the RoleBinding reflector used by `capsule-proxy` gives ServiceAccount tenant owners the right to list Namespaces of other tenants backed by the same owner kind and name. For example consider two tenants `solar` and `wind`. Tenant `solar`, owned by a ServiceAccount named `tenant-owner` in the Namespace `solar`. Tenant `wind`, owned by a ServiceAccount named `tenant-owner` in the Namespace `wind`. The Tenant owner `solar` would be able to list the namespaces of the Tenant `wind` and vice-versa, although this is not correct. The bug introduces an exfiltration vulnerability since allows the listing of Namespace resources of other Tenants, although just in some specific conditions: 1. `capsule-proxy` runs with the `--disable-caching=false` (default value: `false`) and 2. Tenant owners are ServiceAccount, with the same resource name, but in different Namespaces. This vulnerability doesn't allow any privilege escalation on the outer tenant Namespace-scoped resources, since the Kubernetes RBAC is enforcing this. This issue has been addressed in version 0.4.5. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

    CVE-2026-61795 (GCVE-0-2026-61795)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-09-18 16:31 – Updated: 2026-09-18 16:31

    CVE-2026-55636 (GCVE-0-2026-55636)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-09-15 15:27 – Updated: 2026-09-15 18:02
    VLAI

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-06-01 17:42 – Updated: 2026-06-02 12:45

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2023-11-06 18:34 – Updated: 2024-08-02 20:37

              "lang": "en",
"value": "capsule-proxy is a reverse proxy for Capsule kubernetes multi-tenancy framework. This vulnerability doesn\u0027t allow any privilege escalation on the outer tenant Namespace-scoped resources, since the Kubernetes RBAC is enforcing this. This issue has been addressed in version 0.4.5. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability."
