Title
Apache Fory: Heap type confusion in C++ polymorphic smart-pointer deserialization
Summary
Heap type confusion vulnerability in Apache Fory C++ deserialization. This issue affects Apache Fory C++ versions from 0.14.0 before 1.5.0. A crafted input payload can bypass type compatibility checks during polymorphic smart-pointer deserialization, causing an object of an incompatible type to be treated as the declared base type. This may result in undefined behavior and potentially lead to denial of service or arbitrary code execution. Users are recommended to upgrade to Apache Fory 1.5.0, which fixes this issue. Applications not using Apache Fory C++ polymorphic smart-pointer deserialization are not affected.

Title
MaxSite CMS Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection via maxsite_comuser Cookie
Summary
MaxSite CMS contains a PHP object injection vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code by passing attacker-controlled serialized data in the maxsite_comuser cookie directly to unserialize() without validation or class allowlisting. Attackers can craft a malicious serialized PHP object payload delivered in a single HTTP request to trigger magic methods during object graph reconstruction, enabling property-oriented programming attacks or remote code execution via available gadget chains such as those targeting SoapClient or Imagick extensions.

Title
Memory exhaustion via unbounded deserialization of keyset pagination cursors in Ash.Page.Keyset
Summary
Uncontrolled Resource Consumption vulnerability in ash-project ash allows an attacker to exhaust the memory of the node via a crafted keyset pagination cursor. Read actions with keyset pagination deserialize the client-supplied page[:after] or page[:before] cursor in decode_values/2 in lib/ash/page/keyset.ex, which base64-decodes the value and passes it to :erlang.binary_to_term/2 without bounding its size. The Erlang external term format supports zlib-compressed payloads, which the decoder inflates transparently, so a cursor of a few kilobytes can allocate tens of megabytes of heap in a single call. Ash itself only ever encodes cursors uncompressed, so the decoder accepts a term shape its encoder never produces. Concurrent requests aggregate these allocations and can terminate the node. This issue affects ash: from 1.17.0 before 3.31.1.

Title
kotaemon 0.12.0 Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution via Insecure Deserialization
Summary
kotaemon through 0.12.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability in the check_connection endpoint that allows unauthenticated attackers to instantiate arbitrary Python classes by supplying crafted YAML/JSON input with a __type__ field. Attackers can exploit this to override the __type__ field with subprocess.check_output and arbitrary arguments, achieving remote code execution with application process privileges.

Title
ZenML 0.94.6 Remote Code Execution via CloudpickleMaterializer
Summary
ZenML 0.94.6 contains a remote code execution vulnerability in the CloudpickleMaterializer component that allows attackers with write access to a shared artifact store to execute arbitrary code by planting a malicious pickle file. Attackers can replace a stored artifact.pkl file with a crafted cloudpickle payload containing a malicious __reduce__ method, which executes arbitrary system commands when any user or pipeline materializes the artifact through the unsanitized cloudpickle.load() call in cloudpickle_materializer.py.

Title
ComfyUI 0.23.0 Unauthenticated RCE via LoadTrainingDataset Pickle Deserialization
Summary
ComfyUI v0.23.0 contains an unsafe deserialization vulnerability in the LoadTrainingDataset node that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary Python code by uploading a crafted pickle file and triggering its deserialization. Attackers can upload a malicious shard_*.pkl file via the unauthenticated POST /upload/image endpoint and then queue a workflow graph via POST /prompt referencing the uploaded file, causing torch.load to deserialize the attacker-controlled pickle payload using __reduce__ and execute arbitrary commands as the ComfyUI process user.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design Implementation

If available, use the signing/sealing features of the programming language to assure that deserialized data has not been tainted. For example, a hash-based message authentication code (HMAC) could be used to ensure that data has not been modified.

Mitigation
Implementation

When deserializing data, populate a new object rather than just deserializing. The result is that the data flows through safe input validation and that the functions are safe.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly define a final object() to prevent deserialization.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design Implementation
  • Make fields transient to protect them from deserialization.
  • An attempt to serialize and then deserialize a class containing transient fields will result in NULLs where the transient data should be. This is an excellent way to prevent time, environment-based, or sensitive variables from being carried over and used improperly.
Mitigation
Implementation

Avoid having unnecessary types or gadgets (a sequence of instances and method invocations that can self-execute during the deserialization process, often found in libraries) available that can be leveraged for malicious ends. This limits the potential for unintended or unauthorized types and gadgets to be leveraged by the attacker. Add only acceptable classes to an allowlist. Note: new gadgets are constantly being discovered, so this alone is not a sufficient mitigation.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design Implementation

Employ cryptography of the data or code for protection. However, it's important to note that it would still be client-side security. This is risky because if the client is compromised then the security implemented on the client (the cryptography) can be bypassed.

Mitigation MIT-29
Operation

Strategy: Firewall

Use an application firewall that can detect attacks against this weakness. It can be beneficial in cases in which the code cannot be fixed (because it is controlled by a third party), as an emergency prevention measure while more comprehensive software assurance measures are applied, or to provide defense in depth [REF-1481].

CAPEC-586: Object Injection

An adversary attempts to exploit an application by injecting additional, malicious content during its processing of serialized objects. Developers leverage serialization in order to convert data or state into a static, binary format for saving to disk or transferring over a network. These objects are then deserialized when needed to recover the data/state. By injecting a malformed object into a vulnerable application, an adversary can potentially compromise the application by manipulating the deserialization process. This can result in a number of unwanted outcomes, including remote code execution.
