Details

Adobe Audition version 14.4 (and earlier) is affected by a Null pointer dereference vulnerability when parsing a specially crafted file. An unauthenticated attacker could leverage this vulnerability to achieve an application denial-of-service in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

ext/wddx/wddx.c in PHP before 5.6.25 and 7.x before 7.0.10 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an invalid wddxPacket XML document that is mishandled in a wddx_deserialize call, as demonstrated by a stray element inside a boolean element, leading to incorrect pop processing.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-01 15:30 – Updated: 2024-11-01 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/amd/display: fix NULL checks for adev->dm.dc in amdgpu_dm_fini()

Since 'adev->dm.dc' in amdgpu_dm_fini() might turn out to be NULL before the call to dc_enable_dmub_notifications(), check beforehand to ensure there will not be a possible NULL-ptr-deref there.

Also, since commit 1e88eb1b2c25 ("drm/amd/display: Drop CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC_HDCP") there are two separate checks for NULL in 'adev->dm.dc' before dc_deinit_callbacks() and dc_dmub_srv_destroy(). Clean up by combining them all under one 'if'.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE.

Summary
openssl-src subject to NULL dereference validating DSA public key
Details

An invalid pointer dereference on read can be triggered when an application tries to check a malformed DSA public key by the EVP_PKEY_public_check() function. This will most likely lead to an application crash. This function can be called on public keys supplied from untrusted sources which could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service attack.

The TLS implementation in OpenSSL does not call this function but applications might call the function if there are additional security requirements imposed by standards such as FIPS 140-3.

In NATO Communications and Information Agency anet (aka Advisor Network) through 3.3.0, an attacker can provide a crafted JSON file to sanitizeJson and cause an exception. This is related to the U+FFFD Unicode replacement character. A for loop does not consider that a data structure is being modified during loop execution.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-24 15:32 – Updated: 2026-06-01 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

batman-adv: hold claim backbone gateways by reference

batadv_bla_add_claim() can replace claim->backbone_gw and drop the old gateway's last reference while readers still follow the pointer.

The netlink claim dump path dereferences claim->backbone_gw->orig and takes claim->backbone_gw->crc_lock without pinning the underlying backbone gateway. batadv_bla_check_claim() still has the same naked pointer access pattern.

Reuse batadv_bla_claim_get_backbone_gw() in both readers so they operate on a stable gateway reference until the read-side work is complete. This keeps the dump and claim-check paths aligned with the lifetime rules introduced for the other BLA claim readers.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-14 01:15 – Updated: 2022-05-14 01:15
VLAI
Details

A NULL pointer dereference was found in the net/rds/rdma.c __rds_rdma_map() function in the Linux kernel before 4.14.7 allowing local attackers to cause a system panic and a denial-of-service, related to RDS_GET_MR and RDS_GET_MR_FOR_DEST.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
