no Bluetooth radio traffic, paired peer, or HCI adapter link participates in reaching the unvalidated copy.\\nAC:L - Triggering is fully deterministic \\u2014 issue setsockopt(fd, SOL_HCI, HCI_DATA_DIR, buf, optlen\u003c4) or setsockopt(fd, SOL_BLUETOOTH, BT_SNDMTU, buf, optlen\u003c2); there is no race, no timing window, and the attacker can groom the kmalloc-8/16 slab to choose what sits past the allocation.\\nPR:L - bt_sock_create() and hci_sock_create() contain no capability check and the socket defaults to HCI_CHANNEL_RAW, so any unprivileged local user reaches hci_sock_setsockopt_old() with no bind and no caps; CAP_NET_RAW only narrows the filter masks, and HCI_CHANNEL_CONTROL binding for the BT_SNDMTU path is explicitly allowed for untrusted users.\\nUI:N - The attacker performs every step on its own socket \\u2014 create, bind, setsockopt, getsockopt; no victim action, mount, or file open is required.\\nS:U - The out-of-bounds access stays within kernel slab memory under the same security authority, crossing no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.\\nC:H - This is an out-of-bounds read of kernel heap memory past the end of the exact-size kernel_optval allocation, and the disclosed bytes flow straight back to userspace \\u2014 hci_sock_getsockopt() put_user()s hci_pi(sk)-\u003emtu verbatim, yielding a repeatable 16-bit kernel-heap oracle (plus a bit-oracle via HCI_DATA_DIR/HCI_TIME_STAMP) usable with heap grooming to leak kernel data and defeat KASLR.\\nI:N - Nothing is written out of bounds; the only state changed is the attacker\u0027s own socket cmsg_mask, filter, and mtu, all of which are settable through the normal API anyway, so no data outside the attacker\u0027s authority is modified.\\nA:H - The slab out-of-bounds read raises a KASAN BUG that panics outright under the widely deployed panic_on_warn configuration, and the read can fault when it crosses into a KFENCE guard page or unmapped page, producing a kernel oops that an unprivileged local user can repeat at will.\"}]}], \"affected\": [{\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"09572fca7223bcf32c9f0d5e100d8381a81d55f4\", \"lessThan\": \"781f3a97a38a338bc893b6db7f9f9670bf1a9e37\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"09572fca7223bcf32c9f0d5e100d8381a81d55f4\", \"lessThan\": \"0c18a64039aa3f1c16f208d197c65076da798137\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"09572fca7223bcf32c9f0d5e100d8381a81d55f4\", \"lessThan\": \"50173882bb187e70e37bac01385b9b114019bee2\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"09572fca7223bcf32c9f0d5e100d8381a81d55f4\", \"lessThan\": \"b2186061d6043d6345a97100460363e990af0d46\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"unaffected\"}, {\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"5.16\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"0\", \"lessThan\": \"5.16\", \"versionType\": \"semver\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.1.113\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.1.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.6.55\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.6.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.8.7\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.8.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.9\", \"versionType\": \"original_commit_for_fix\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"*\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"affected\"}], \"references\": [{\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/781f3a97a38a338bc893b6db7f9f9670bf1a9e37\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0c18a64039aa3f1c16f208d197c65076da798137\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/50173882bb187e70e37bac01385b9b114019bee2\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/b2186061d6043d6345a97100460363e990af0d46\"}], \"x_generator\": {\"engine\": \"bippy-1.2.0\"}, \"descriptions\": [{\"lang\": \"en\", \"value\": \"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\\n\\nBluetooth: hci_sock: Fix not validating setsockopt user input\\n\\nCheck user input length before copying data.\"}], \"cpeApplicability\": [{\"nodes\": [{\"negate\": false, \"cpeMatch\": [{\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"6.1.113\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.16\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"6.6.55\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.16\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"6.8.7\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.16\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"6.9\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.16\"}], \"operator\": \"OR\"}]}], \"providerMetadata\": {\"orgId\": \"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67\", \"shortName\": \"Linux\", \"dateUpdated\": \"2026-08-05T11:31:15.289Z\"}}}",

Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
