Title
iommu/vt-d: Fix incorrect pci_for_each_dma_alias() for non-PCI devices
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
iommu/vt-d: Fix incorrect pci_for_each_dma_alias() for non-PCI devices
Previously, the domain_context_clear() function incorrectly called
pci_for_each_dma_alias() to set up context entries for non-PCI devices.
This could lead to kernel hangs or other unexpected behavior.
Add a check to only call pci_for_each_dma_alias() for PCI devices. For
non-PCI devices, domain_context_clear_one() is called directly.

"value": "AV:L - The vulnerable path is reached only through local IOMMU domain attach/detach operations (device probe/removal, driver bind/unbind, iommu_group type change, VFIO/iommufd device attach); there is no network or remote-peer input involved.\nAC:L - The type confusion is deterministic \u2014 every attach/detach of a non-PCI (ACPI-namespace/platform) device on an Intel VT-d IOMMU takes the bogus `to_pci_dev()` branch, with no race to win and no memory-layout condition to satisfy. CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU is default-on in distro x86_64 kernels and ANDD/ACPI-namespace devices in DMAR scope are common on Intel client platforms, as the two independent bugzilla reports show.\nPR:L - Reaching the domain attach/detach path requires local access to device-management interfaces rather than any remote authentication, consistent with the PR:L scoring used for comparable VT-d attach/detach defects (CVE-2024-56668, CVE-2024-56669). No credential verification protects the code itself once the attach/detach operation is issued.\nUI:N - The faulty branch executes automatically as part of IOMMU domain attach/detach and device probe/release; no victim action such as opening a file or mounting a filesystem is needed.\nS:U - The corruption is confined to the kernel\u0027s own IOMMU bookkeeping and heap. Clearing a context entry sets Present=0, which blocks DMA (fail-closed) rather than granting a device unrestricted access, so no IOMMU/DMA security boundary is crossed.\nC:H - The fabricated `struct pci_dev` causes unbounded out-of-bounds reads of kernel heap memory adjacent to the platform device, which are then chased as pointers (`pdev-\u003ebus-\u003enumber`, `bus-\u003eself`, `bus-\u003eparent`, `tmp-\u003esubordinate-\u003enumber`), giving an unconstrained kernel-memory read primitive rather than a few bounded bytes.\nI:H - This is a type confusion in which out-of-bounds-read garbage selects which IOMMU context entries get zeroed, silently tearing down DMA translation for unrelated devices and corrupting in-flight DMA for them; per type-confusion/memory-corruption guidance this warrants High.\nA:H - The upstream commit states the bug \"could lead to kernel hangs,\" and the code confirms both an unterminated walk of a fabricated `pci_bus` parent chain (hang) and wild pointer dereferences (oops) on affected hardware, in some configurations during boot-time device probe."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.
Browse all ATT&CK techniques and the vulnerabilities related to each.

Related by attack behaviour
Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
