Summary

Title
WebOb: Location header normalization during redirect leads to open redirect
Summary
WebOb provides objects for HTTP requests and responses. Prior to 1.8.10, the normalization of the HTTP Location header during a redirect is vulnerable to an open redirect: WebOb joins the redirect target to the request URI using Python's urljoin, and since Python 3.10 the underlying urlsplit strips ASCII tab, carriage return, and newline characters before parsing, so a redirect target containing such characters can be reinterpreted as a protocol-relative URL whose authority is an attacker-controlled host. This bypasses the CVE-2024-42353 fix that escaped a leading double slash, allowing an attacker who influences the redirect location to send users to an arbitrary external site instead of the intended one. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.8.10.

Title
Tabby: Unsafe protocol handler execution via terminal linkifier allows arbitrary OS protocol invocation
Summary
Tabby (formerly Terminus) is a highly configurable terminal emulator. Prior to 1.0.232, Tabby's terminal linkifier passes any detected URI directly to the operating system's protocol handler without validating the protocol scheme. This allows a malicious SSH or Telnet server to send crafted terminal output containing dangerous protocol URIs which Tabby renders as clickable links, triggering arbitrary OS protocol handlers on the victim's machine. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.0.232.

Title
CubeCart: Pre-Authenticated Password Reset Link Poisoning via HTTP Host Header
Summary
CubeCart is an ecommerce software solution. Prior to 6.7.2, CubeCart 6.6.x – 6.7.1 builds CC_STORE_URL directly from the Host request header at bootstrap, with no allowlist. The constant is embedded verbatim into transactional email links, most critically the password-reset link in User::passwordRequest() (and the admin equivalent in Admin::passwordRequest()). An unauthenticated attacker who knows a target email can POST /index.php?_a=recover with Host: evil.com; CubeCart writes a fresh verify token (valid 3,600 s) and emails the victim a link http://evil.com/index.php?_a=recovery&validate=<TOKEN>. The token is valid against the legitimate store — capturing the victim's click on evil.com yields full account takeover, or store takeover when an admin email is targeted. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.7.2.

The constant is embedded verbatim into transactional email links, most critically the password-reset link in User::passwordRequest() (and the admin equivalent in Admin::passwordRequest()). An unauthenticated attacker who knows a target email can POST /index.php?_a=recover with Host: evil.com; CubeCart writes a fresh verify token (valid 3,600 s) and emails the victim a link http://evil.com/index.php?_a=recovery\u0026validate=\u003cTOKEN\u003e. The token is valid against the legitimate store \u2014 capturing the victim\u0027s click on evil.com yields full account takeover, or store takeover when an admin email is targeted. Speakr is a personal, self-hosted web application designed for transcribing audio recordings. Prior to 0.8.20-alpha, the is_safe_url() helper used to validate post-login redirect targets applied urljoin(request.host_url, target) before parsing, while the controller passed the raw target to redirect(). A scheme-relative input such as ////evil.com resolved to a same-host URL during validation but was emitted verbatim in the Location header, where the browser interpreted it as a network-path-relative redirect to an attacker-controlled host. Summary
WeGIA is a web manager for charitable institutions. Prior to 3.7.3, an Open Redirect vulnerability was identified in the /WeGIA/controle/control.php endpoint of the WeGIA application, specifically through the nextPage parameter when combined with metodo=listarTodos and nomeClasse=InternoControle. The application fails to validate or restrict the nextPage parameter, allowing attackers to redirect users to arbitrary external websites. This can be abused for phishing attacks, credential theft, malware distribution, and social engineering using the trusted WeGIA domain. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.7.3.

Roxy-WI: Open redirect on /login?next= via basic-auth userinfo syntax bypass

Roxy-WI is a web interface for managing Haproxy, Nginx, Apache and Keepalived servers. In versions 8.2.6.4 and prior, the login flow allow-lists next URLs by rejecting strings containing https:// or http:// substrings, then constructs https://{request.host}{next_url} and the JS client redirects via window.location.replace(). The block does not consider the userinfo@host syntax. next=@evil.example/path produces https://victim.example@evil.example/path, which all modern browsers route to evil.example. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches.

Strategy: Input Validation

Description:

  • Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
  • When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
  • Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
  • Use a list of approved URLs or domains to be used for redirection.

  • Use an intermediate disclaimer page that provides the user with a clear warning that they are leaving the current site. Implement a long timeout before the redirect occurs, or force the user to click on the link. Be careful to avoid XSS problems (CWE-79) when generating the disclaimer page.

Description:

  • When the set of acceptable objects, such as filenames or URLs, is limited or known, create a mapping from a set of fixed input values (such as numeric IDs) to the actual filenames or URLs, and reject all other inputs.
  • For example, ID 1 could map to "/login.asp" and ID 2 could map to "http://www.example.com/". Features such as the ESAPI AccessReferenceMap [REF-45] provide this capability.

Description:

  • Understand all the potential areas where untrusted inputs can enter your software: parameters or arguments, cookies, anything read from the network, environment variables, reverse DNS lookups, query results, request headers, URL components, e-mail, files, filenames, databases, and any external systems that provide data to the application. Remember that such inputs may be obtained indirectly through API calls.
  • Many open redirect problems occur because the programmer assumed that certain inputs could not be modified, such as cookies and hidden form fields.

Description:

  • Use an application firewall that can detect attacks against this weakness. It can be beneficial in cases in which the code cannot be fixed (because it is controlled by a third party), as an emergency prevention measure while more comprehensive software assurance measures are applied, or to provide defense in depth [REF-1481].
CAPEC-178: Cross-Site Flashing

An attacker is able to trick the victim into executing a Flash document that passes commands or calls to a Flash player browser plugin, allowing the attacker to exploit native Flash functionality in the client browser. This attack pattern occurs where an attacker can provide a crafted link to a Flash document (SWF file) which, when followed, will cause additional malicious instructions to be executed. The attacker does not need to serve or control the Flash document. The attack takes advantage of the fact that Flash files can reference external URLs. If variables that serve as URLs that the Flash application references can be controlled through parameters, then by creating a link that includes values for those parameters, an attacker can cause arbitrary content to be referenced and possibly executed by the targeted Flash application.
