GHSA-P6RV-2QPM-FWVG
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-07-06 19:55 – Updated: 2026-07-06 19:55kill -1 is incorrectly parsed as a positional pid = -1; combined with the default SIGTERM this calls kill(-1, SIGTERM), signaling nearly every process the caller can see. GNU kill recognizes -1/-9 as signals and reports "not enough arguments".
$ kill -1 # uutils: kill(-1, SIGTERM) -> mass termination / crash
$ kill -1 # GNU: kill: not enough arguments
Impact: a user running kill -1 mass-terminates processes, potentially crashing the system. Recommendation: parse -N as a signal number, and error with "not enough arguments" when no PID is given.
Remediation: Acknowledged by Canonical; fixed in commit cae94028.
Reported by Zellic in the uutils coreutils Program Security Assessment (prepared for Canonical, Jan 20 2026), audited commit 3a07ffc5a9bd4c283e75afa548ba1f1957bad242. Finding 3.70. Credit: Zellic.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-07-06 20:25 – Updated: 2026-07-06 20:25The printenv utility in uutils coreutils fails to display environment variables containing invalid UTF-8 byte sequences. While POSIX permits arbitrary bytes in environment strings, the uutils implementation silently skips these entries rather than printing the raw bytes. This vulnerability allows malicious environment variables (e.g., adversarial LD_PRELOAD values) to evade inspection by administrators or security auditing tools, potentially allowing library injection or other environment-based attacks to go undetected.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2023-09-06 19:50 – Updated: 2023-09-06 19:50Impact
Apps using contextIsolation and contextBridge are affected.
This is a context isolation bypass, meaning that code running in the main world context in the renderer can reach into the isolated Electron context and perform privileged actions.
Workarounds
This issue is exploitable under either of two conditions:
* If an API exposed to the main world via contextBridge can return an object or array that contains a JS object which cannot be serialized, for instance, a canvas rendering context. This would normally result in an exception being thrown Error: object could not be cloned.
* If an API exposed to the main world via contextBridge has a return value that throws a user-generated exception while being sent over the bridge, for instance a dynamic getter property on an object that throws an error when being computed.
The app side workaround is to ensure that such a case is not possible. Ensure all values returned from a function exposed over the context bridge are supported and that any objects returned from functions do not have dynamic getters that can throw exceptions.
Auditing your exposed API is likely to be quite difficult so we strongly recommend you update to a patched version of Electron.

GHSA-PGVV-Q3WF-MM9M
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-18 17:56 – Updated: 2026-06-09 10:58Summary
The Postgres protocol parser assumes BIND message payloads contain a valid NUL-terminated portal name. A crafted empty or unterminated payload can make OBI slice beyond the end of the captured buffer and panic.
Details
The vulnerable logic is in pkg/ebpf/common/sql_detect_postgres.go. In the BIND case, OBI converts the full payload to a string with unix.ByteSliceToString(msg.data), computes portalLen := len(portal) + 1, and then slices msg.data[portalLen:] to derive the statement name.
There is no check that msg.data actually contains a NUL terminator or even enough bytes for portalLen. With an empty payload or a truncated message, portalLen can exceed the slice length and trigger a runtime panic.
PoC
Local testing with a minimal reproducer showed the expected slice bounds out of range crash for an empty BIND payload.
Use a vulnerable build:
git checkout v0.0.0-rc.1+build
make build
Start a local Postgres instance and OBI:
docker run --rm -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=postgres -p 5432:5432 postgres:17
sudo ./bin/obi
Send a malformed BIND frame with an empty payload:
# save as /tmp/pg-bind-poc.py
import socket, struct
tag = b'B'
length = struct.pack(">I", 4)
payload = b""
s = socket.create_connection(("127.0.0.1", 5432))
s.sendall(tag + length + payload)
s.close()
Run it:
python3 /tmp/pg-bind-poc.py
On a vulnerable build, the Postgres parser in OBI panics while processing the captured payload.
Impact
This is a remote availability issue in OBI's Postgres parser. Any attacker able to send malformed Postgres traffic to a monitored service can crash the agent and stop telemetry collection for that node or process.

"details": "### Summary\n\nThe Postgres protocol parser assumes `BIND` message payloads contain a valid NUL-terminated portal name. A crafted empty or unterminated payload can make OBI slice beyond the end of the captured buffer and panic.\n\n### Details\n\nThe vulnerable logic is in [pkg/ebpf/common/sql_detect_postgres.go](https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-ebpf-instrumentation/blob/d5691806adc98008bacd2b7a4a4e0cd38ea51227/pkg/components/ebpf/common/sql_detect_postgres.go#L286-L294). In the `BIND` case, OBI converts the full payload to a string with `unix.ByteSliceToString(msg.data)`, computes `portalLen := len(portal) + 1`, and then slices `msg.data[portalLen:]` to derive the statement name.\n\nThere is no check that `msg.data` actually contains a NUL terminator or even enough bytes for `portalLen`. With an empty payload or a truncated message, `portalLen` can exceed the slice length and trigger a runtime panic.\n\n### PoC\n\nLocal testing with a minimal reproducer showed the expected `slice bounds out of range` crash for an empty BIND payload.\n\nUse a vulnerable build:\n\n```bash\ngit checkout v0.0.0-rc.1+build\nmake build\n```\n\nStart a local Postgres instance and OBI:\n\n```bash\ndocker run --rm -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=postgres -p 5432:5432 postgres:17\nsudo ./bin/obi\n```\n\nSend a malformed `BIND` frame with an empty payload:\n\n```python\n# save as /tmp/pg-bind-poc.py\nimport socket, struct\n\ntag = b\u0027B\u0027\nlength = struct.pack(\"\u003eI\", 4)\npayload = b\"\"\n\ns = socket.create_connection((\"127.0.0.1\", 5432))\ns.sendall(tag + length + payload)\ns.close()\n```\n\nRun it:\n\n```bash\npython3 /tmp/pg-bind-poc.py\n```\n\nOn a vulnerable build, the Postgres parser in OBI panics while processing the captured payload.\n\n### Impact\n\nThis is a remote availability issue in OBI\u0027s Postgres parser. Mitigation MIT-3
Strategy: Language Selection
- Use a language that does not allow this weakness to occur or provides constructs that make this weakness easier to avoid.
- Choose languages with features such as exception handling that force the programmer to anticipate unusual conditions that may generate exceptions. Custom exceptions may need to be developed to handle unusual business-logic conditions. Be careful not to pass sensitive exceptions back to the user (CWE-209, CWE-248).
Mitigation
Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is expected.
Mitigation
If using exception handling, catch and throw specific exceptions instead of overly-general exceptions (CWE-396, CWE-397). Catch and handle exceptions as locally as possible so that exceptions do not propagate too far up the call stack (CWE-705). Avoid unchecked or uncaught exceptions where feasible (CWE-248).
Mitigation MIT-39
- Ensure that error messages only contain minimal details that are useful to the intended audience and no one else. The messages need to strike the balance between being too cryptic (which can confuse users) or being too detailed (which may reveal more than intended). The messages should not reveal the methods that were used to determine the error. Attackers can use detailed information to refine or optimize their original attack, thereby increasing their chances of success.
- If errors must be captured in some detail, record them in log messages, but consider what could occur if the log messages can be viewed by attackers. Highly sensitive information such as passwords should never be saved to log files.
- Avoid inconsistent messaging that might accidentally tip off an attacker about internal state, such as whether a user account exists or not.
- Exposing additional information to a potential attacker in the context of an exceptional condition can help the attacker determine what attack vectors are most likely to succeed beyond DoS.
Mitigation MIT-5
Strategy: Input Validation
- Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
- When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
- Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
Mitigation MIT-38
If the program must fail, ensure that it fails gracefully (fails closed). There may be a temptation to simply let the program fail poorly in cases such as low memory conditions, but an attacker may be able to assert control before the software has fully exited. Alternately, an uncontrolled failure could cause cascading problems with other downstream components; for example, the program could send a signal to a downstream process so the process immediately knows that a problem has occurred and has a better chance of recovery.
Mitigation
Use system limits, which should help to prevent resource exhaustion. However, the product should still handle low resource conditions since they may still occur.
