Details

A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause impact to the availability of the device.

When static route points to a reject next hop and a gNMI query is processed for that static route, rpd crashes and restarts.

This issue affects:

Junos OS:  * all versions before 21.2R3-S9, * 21.4 versions before 21.4R3-S10,  * 22.2 versions before 22.2R3-S6, * 22.4 versions before 22.4R3-S6, * 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S3, * 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S4, * 24.2 versions before 24.2R1-S2, 24.2R2;

Junos OS Evolved:

  • all versions before 22.4R3-S7-EVO,
  • 23.2-EVO

versions before 23.2R2-S3-EVO, * 23.4-EVO versions before 23.4R2-S4-EVO, * 24.2-EVO versions before 24.2R2-EVO.

GHSA-CFCX-RGR2-RQQQ

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-10-01 12:30 – Updated: 2026-01-20 21:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

x86/fpu: Fix copy_xstate_to_uabi() to copy init states correctly

When an extended state component is not present in fpstate, but in init state, the function copies from init_fpstate via copy_feature().

But, dynamic states are not present in init_fpstate because of all-zeros init states. Then retrieving them from init_fpstate will explode like this:

BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000000 ... RIP: 0010:memcpy_erms+0x6/0x10 ? __copy_xstate_to_uabi_buf+0x381/0x870 fpu_copy_guest_fpstate_to_uabi+0x28/0x80 kvm_arch_vcpu_ioctl+0x14c/0x1460 [kvm] ? __this_cpu_preempt_check+0x13/0x20 ? vmx_vcpu_put+0x2e/0x260 [kvm_intel] kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0xea/0x6b0 [kvm] ? kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0xea/0x6b0 [kvm] ? __fget_light+0xd4/0x130 __x64_sys_ioctl+0xe3/0x910 ? debug_smp_processor_id+0x17/0x20 ? fpregs_assert_state_consistent+0x27/0x50 do_syscall_64+0x3f/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd

Adjust the 'mask' to zero out the userspace buffer for the features that are not available both from fpstate and from init_fpstate.

The dynamic features depend on the compacted XSAVE format. Ensure it is enabled before reading XCOMP_BV in init_fpstate.

In freeradius, when an EAP-SIM supplicant sends an unknown SIM option, the server will try to look that option up in the internal dictionaries. This lookup will fail, but the SIM code will not check for that failure. Instead, it will dereference a NULL pointer, and cause the server to crash.

When IPv6 module gets initialized but hits an error in the middle, kenel panic with:

When ipv6 initialization fails, it will try to cleanup and calls:

Fix it by passing NULL to pneigh_queue_purge() in neigh_ifdown() if dev is NULL, to make kernel not panic immediately.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

perf/x86/intel/pt: Fix crash with stop filters in single-range mode

Add a check for !buf->single before calling pt_buffer_region_size in a place where a missing check can cause a kernel crash.

Fixes a bug introduced by commit 670638477aed ("perf/x86/intel/pt: Opportunistically use single range output mode"), which added a support for PT single-range output mode. Since that commit if a PT stop filter range is hit while tracing, the kernel will crash because of a null pointer dereference in pt_handle_status due to calling pt_buffer_region_size without a ToPA configured.

The commit which introduced single-range mode guarded almost all uses of the ToPA buffer variables with checks of the buf->single variable, but missed the case where tracing was stopped by the PT hardware, which happens when execution hits a configured stop filter.

Tested that hitting a stop filter while PT recording successfully records a trace with this patch but crashes without this patch.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

gpio: Restrict usage of GPIO chip irq members before initialization

GPIO chip irq members are exposed before they could be completely initialized and this leads to race conditions.

One such issue was observed for the gc->irq.domain variable which was accessed through the I2C interface in gpiochip_to_irq() before it could be initialized by gpiochip_add_irqchip(). This resulted in Kernel NULL pointer dereference.

Following are the logs for reference :-

kernel: Call Trace: kernel: gpiod_to_irq+0x53/0x70 kernel: acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get_by+0x113/0x1f0 kernel: i2c_acpi_get_irq+0xc0/0xd0 kernel: i2c_device_probe+0x28a/0x2a0 kernel: really_probe+0xf2/0x460 kernel: RIP: 0010:gpiochip_to_irq+0x47/0xc0

To avoid such scenarios, restrict usage of GPIO chip irq members before they are completely initialized.

VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: rfkill: gpio: Fix crash due to dereferencering uninitialized pointer

Since commit 7d5e9737efda ("net: rfkill: gpio: get the name and type from device property") rfkill_find_type() gets called with the possibly uninitialized "const char *type_name;" local variable.

On x86 systems when rfkill-gpio binds to a "BCM4752" or "LNV4752" acpi_device, the rfkill->type is set based on the ACPI acpi_device_id:

    rfkill->type = (unsigned)id->driver_data;

and there is no "type" property so device_property_read_string() will fail and leave type_name uninitialized, leading to a potential crash.

rfkill_find_type() does accept a NULL pointer, fix the potential crash by initializing type_name to NULL.

Note likely sofar this has not been caught because:

  1. Not many x86 machines actually have a "BCM4752"/"LNV4752" acpi_device
  2. The stack happened to contain NULL where type_name is stored

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
