Details

An issue was discovered in OpenNDS Captive Portal before version 10.1.2. It has a NULL pointer dereference in preauthenticated() that can be triggered with a crafted GET HTTP request with a missing redirect query string parameter. Triggering this issue results in crashing OpenNDS (a Denial-of-Service condition).

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-07-16 15:30 – Updated: 2024-07-23 15:31

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

tipc: fix kernel panic when enabling bearer

When enabling a bearer on a node, a kernel panic is observed:

[ 4.498085] RIP: 0010:tipc_mon_prep+0x4e/0x130 [tipc] ... [ 4.520030] Call Trace: [ 4.520689] [ 4.521236] tipc_link_build_proto_msg+0x375/0x750 [tipc] [ 4.522654] tipc_link_build_state_msg+0x48/0xc0 [tipc] [ 4.524034] __tipc_node_link_up+0xd7/0x290 [tipc] [ 4.525292] tipc_rcv+0x5da/0x730 [tipc] [ 4.526346] ? __netif_receive_skb_core+0xb7/0xfc0 [ 4.527601] tipc_l2_rcv_msg+0x5e/0x90 [tipc] [ 4.528737] __netif_receive_skb_list_core+0x20b/0x260 [ 4.530068] netif_receive_skb_list_internal+0x1bf/0x2e0 [ 4.531450] ? dev_gro_receive+0x4c2/0x680 [ 4.532512] napi_complete_done+0x6f/0x180 [ 4.533570] virtnet_poll+0x29c/0x42e [virtio_net] ...

The node in question is receiving activate messages in another thread after changing bearer status to allow message sending/ receiving in current thread:

     thread 1 | thread 2
     -------- | --------
                        |

tipc_enable_bearer() | test_and_set_bit_lock() | tipc_bearer_xmit_skb() | | tipc_l2_rcv_msg() | tipc_rcv() | __tipc_node_link_up() | tipc_link_build_state_msg() | tipc_link_build_proto_msg() | tipc_mon_prep() | { | ... | // null-pointer dereference | u16 gen = mon->dom_gen; | ... | } // Not being executed yet | tipc_mon_create() | { | ... | // allocate | mon = kzalloc(); | ... | } |

Monitoring pointer in thread 2 is dereferenced before monitoring data is allocated in thread 1. This causes kernel panic.

This commit fixes it by allocating the monitoring data before enabling the bearer to receive messages.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-04-03 15:30 – Updated: 2025-01-07 21:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

usb: dwc3: gadget: Fix NULL pointer dereference in dwc3_gadget_suspend

In current scenario if Plug-out and Plug-In performed continuously there could be a chance while checking for dwc->gadget_driver in dwc3_gadget_suspend, a NULL pointer dereference may occur.

Call Stack:

CPU1: CPU2:
gadget_unbind_driver dwc3_suspend_common
dwc3_gadget_stop dwc3_gadget_suspend
                                    dwc3_disconnect_gadget

CPU1 basically clears the variable and CPU2 checks the variable. Consider CPU1 is running and right before gadget_driver is cleared and in parallel CPU2 executes dwc3_gadget_suspend where it finds dwc->gadget_driver which is not NULL and resumes execution and then CPU1 completes execution. CPU2 executes dwc3_disconnect_gadget where it checks dwc->gadget_driver is already NULL because of which the NULL pointer deference occur.

Details

Unified Automation UaGateway OPC UA Server Null Pointer Dereference Denial-of-Service Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to create a denial-of-service condition on affected installations of Unified Automation UaGateway. Authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the ImportCsv method. A crafted XML payload can cause a null pointer dereference. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to create a denial-of-service condition on the system. Was ZDI-CAN-20495.

GHSA-97QV-CC94-MR6W

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-08 15:31 – Updated: 2026-05-11 09:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ceph: add a bunch of missing ceph_path_info initializers

ceph_mdsc_build_path() must be called with a zero-initialized ceph_path_info parameter, or else the following ceph_mdsc_free_path_info() may crash.

Example crash (on Linux 6.18.12):

virt_to_cache: Object is not a Slab page! WARNING: CPU: 184 PID: 2871736 at mm/slub.c:6732 kmem_cache_free+0x316/0x400 [...] Call Trace: [...] ceph_open+0x13d/0x3e0 do_dentry_open+0x134/0x480 vfs_open+0x2a/0xe0 path_openat+0x9a3/0x1160 [...] cache_from_obj: Wrong slab cache. names_cache but object is from ceph_inode_info WARNING: CPU: 184 PID: 2871736 at mm/slub.c:6746 kmem_cache_free+0x2dd/0x400 [...] kernel BUG at mm/slub.c:634! Oops: invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP NOPTI RIP: 0010:__slab_free+0x1a4/0x350

Some of the ceph_mdsc_build_path() callers had initializers, but others had not, even though they were all added by commit 15f519e9f883 ("ceph: fix race condition validating r_parent before applying state"). The ones without initializer are suspectible to random crashes. (I can imagine it could even be possible to exploit this bug to elevate privileges.)

Unfortunately, these Ceph functions are undocumented and its semantics can only be derived from the code. I see that ceph_mdsc_build_path() initializes the structure only on success, but not on error.

Calling ceph_mdsc_free_path_info() after a failed ceph_mdsc_build_path() call does not even make sense, but that's what all callers do, and for it to be safe, the structure must be zero-initialized. The least intrusive approach to fix this is therefore to add initializers everywhere.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
