Details

In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.6 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.12, the DNS dissector could go into an infinite loop. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-dns.c by trying to detect self-referencing pointers.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-19 20:46 – Updated: 2026-06-19 20:46
VLAI
Summary
CoreWCF: Pre-authentication infinite-loop CPU exhaustion in CoreWCF net.tcp / net.pipe / net.uds framing handshake
Details

Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can pin one server thread‑pool worker at 100 % CPU per connection. With a few connections, the CPU usage can be exhausted.

Preconditions

An attacker being able to reach a service which is exposing an endpoint using one of NetTcpBinding, NetNamedPipeBinding, or UnixDomainSocketBinding.

Patches

Fixed in CoreWCF v1.8.1 and v1.9.1

Workarounds

None

The problem is that the inode contains an xattr entry with ea_inum of 15 when cleaning up an orphan inode <15>. When evict inode <15>, the reference counting of the corresponding EA inode is decreased. When EA inode <15> is found by find_inode_fast() in __ext4_iget(), it is found that the EA inode holds the I_FREEING flag and waits for the EA inode to complete deletion. As a result, when inode <15> is being deleted, we wait for inode <15> to complete the deletion, resulting in an infinite loop and triggering Hung Task. To solve this problem, we only need to check whether the ino of EA inode and parent is the same before getting EA inode.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-06 20:53 – Updated: 2026-05-13 16:41
VLAI
Summary
Snappier has an infinite loop during SnappyStream decompression with malformed framed input
Details

Summary

Snappier.SnappyStream enters an uncatchable infinite loop when decompressing a malformed framed-format Snappy stream as small as 15 bytes.

Details

The hang manifests as a userspace busy loop with SnappyStreamDecompressor.Decompress repeatedly calling Crc32CAlgorithm.Append. The exact non-terminating loop in or above Decompress has not been traced further.

PoC

using System.IO.Compression;
using Snappier;

byte[] data = { 0x00, 0x04, 0x00, 0x00, 0x64, 0x4e, 0x6c, 0x71, 0x79, 0x20, 0x77, 0x6f, 0x72, 0x6c, 0x64 };
using var src = new MemoryStream(data);
using var snap = new SnappyStream(src, CompressionMode.Decompress);
using var dst = new MemoryStream();
snap.CopyTo(dst);   // never returns

Impact

A caller using SnappyStream on attacker-controlled bytes can be made to spin forever and burn a thread until the process is killed. try/catch around the stream operation can't recover (no exception is thrown).
