Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-08-22 15:31 – Updated: 2026-08-22 15:31
VLAI
Details

Netty (io.netty:netty-handler) versions from 4.2.0.Final through 4.2.16.Final and versions through 4.1.136.Final disable TLS hostname verification on the SslProvider.OPENSSL client path when a plain (non-extended) X509TrustManager is used and Unsafe-based trust-manager wrapping is unavailable (Java 25+). In this configuration the OpenSSL client does not perform hostname verification, allowing a man-in-the-middle attacker to present a certificate issued for a different hostname that is accepted without validation. Fixed in 4.2.17.Final and 4.1.137.Final.

Summary
Improper Certificate Validation and Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch in Keycloak
Details

A flaw was found in Keycloak in versions before 10.0.0, where it does not perform the TLS hostname verification while sending emails using the SMTP server. This flaw allows an attacker to perform a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack.

Summary
Improper Certificate Validation and Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch in Apache Sling Commons Messaging Mail
Details

Apache Sling Commons Messaging Mail provides a simple layer on top of JavaMail/Jakarta Mail for OSGi to send mails via SMTPS. To reduce the risk of "man in the middle" attacks additional server identity checks must be performed when accessing mail servers. For compatibility reasons these additional checks are disabled by default in JavaMail/Jakarta Mail. The SimpleMailService in Apache Sling Commons Messaging Mail 1.0 lacks an option to enable these checks for the shared mail session. A user could enable these checks nevertheless by accessing the session via the message created by SimpleMessageBuilder and setting the property mail.smtps.ssl.checkserveridentity to true. Apache Sling Commons Messaging Mail 2.0 adds support for enabling server identity checks and these checks are enabled by default. - https://javaee.github.io/javamail/docs/SSLNOTES.txt - https://javaee.github.io/javamail/docs/api/com/sun/mail/smtp/package-summary.html - https://github.com/eclipse-ee4j/mail/issues/429

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-24 16:49 – Updated: 2024-04-04 01:06

Details

Interaction between the sks-keyserver code through 1.2.0 of the SKS keyserver network, and GnuPG through 2.2.16, makes it risky to have a GnuPG keyserver configuration line referring to a host on the SKS keyserver network. Retrieving data from this network may cause a persistent denial of service, because of a Certificate Spamming Attack.

Summary
Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch in Not Yet Commons SSL
Details

Certificates.java in Not Yet Commons SSL before 0.3.15 does not properly verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.

Details

An issue was discovered in Ada Web Server 20.0. When configured to use SSL (which is not the default setting), the SSL/TLS used to establish connections to external services is done without proper hostname validation. This is exploitable by man-in-the-middle attackers.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Fully check the hostname of the certificate and provide the user with adequate information about the nature of the problem and how to proceed.

Mitigation
Implementation

If certificate pinning is being used, ensure that all relevant properties of the certificate are fully validated before the certificate is pinned, including the hostname.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
