Summary
Privilege escalation in easyappointments
Details

The Easy!Appointments API authorization is checked against the user's existence, without validating the permissions. As a result, a low privileged user (eg. provider) can create a new admin user via the "/api/v1/admins/" endpoint and take over the system. A patch is available on the develop branch of the repository.

Details

The WishList Member plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Missing Authorization leading to Sensitive Information Disclosure and Privilege Escalation in versions up to and including 3.30.1. This is due to the missing capability checks in the 'export_settings' function. This function returns the REST API Secret Key to the attacker in the AJAX JSON response. An attacker who obtains this key can authenticate to the WishList Member API, create a new membership level assigned the administrator WordPress role, and register an arbitrary administrator-level user account, resulting in complete site takeover.

GHSA-7FF4-JW48-3436

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-11-24 21:51 – Updated: 2025-11-27 07:58
VLAI
Summary
OpenBao is Vulnerable to Privileged Operator Identity Group Root Escalation
Details

Impact

Similar to HCSEC-2025-13 / CVE-2025-5999, a privileged operator could use the identity group subsystem to add a root policy to a group identity group, escalating their or another user's permissions in the system. Specifically this is an issue when:

  1. An operator in the root namespace has access to identity/groups endpoints.
  2. An operator does not have policy access.

Otherwise, an operator with policy access could create or modify an existing policy to grant root-equivalent permissions through the sudo capability.

Patches

Patched in version 2.4.4.

Workarounds

Users should audit the use of identity subsystem and deny operators access if it is not in use.

Mitigation MIT-1
Architecture and Design Operation

Very carefully manage the setting, management, and handling of privileges. Explicitly manage trust zones in the software.

Mitigation MIT-48
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Separation of Privilege

Follow the principle of least privilege when assigning access rights to entities in a software system.

Mitigation MIT-49
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Separation of Privilege

Consider following the principle of separation of privilege. Require multiple conditions to be met before permitting access to a system resource.

CAPEC-122: Privilege Abuse

An adversary is able to exploit features of the target that should be reserved for privileged users or administrators but are exposed to use by lower or non-privileged accounts. Access to sensitive information and functionality must be controlled to ensure that only authorized users are able to access these resources.

CAPEC-233: Privilege Escalation

An adversary exploits a weakness enabling them to elevate their privilege and perform an action that they are not supposed to be authorized to perform.

CAPEC-58: Restful Privilege Elevation

An adversary identifies a Rest HTTP (Get, Put, Delete) style permission method allowing them to perform various malicious actions upon server data due to lack of access control mechanisms implemented within the application service accepting HTTP messages.
