CVE-2026-64451 — tracing: Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag()

Affected: Linux

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

tracing: Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag()

func_set_flag() dereferences tr->current_trace_flags before verifying
that the current tracer is actually the function tracer. When the active
tracer has been switched away from "function" (e.g., to "wakeup_rt"),
tr->current_trace_flags can be NULL, leading to a NULL pointer
dereference and kernel crash.

The call chain that triggers this is:

trace_options_write()
    -> __set_tracer_option()
      -> trace->set_flag()          /* func_set_flag */

In func_set_flag(), the first operation is:

if (!!set == !!(tr->current_trace_flags->val & bit))

This dereferences tr->current_trace_flags unconditionally. The safety
check that guards against a non-function tracer:

if (tr->current_trace != &function_trace)
      return 0;

is placed *after* the dereference, which is too late.

This was observed with the following crash dump:

BUG: unable to handle page fault at 0000000000000000
  RIP: func_set_flag+0xd

USN-8726-1 — linux, linux-aws, linux-aws-7.0, linux-gcp, linux-gke, linux-hwe-7.0, linux-realtime vulnerabilities

Affected: Ubuntu:24.04:LTS: linux-aws-7.0, Ubuntu:24.04:LTS: linux-hwe-7.0, Ubuntu:26.04:LTS: linux, Ubuntu:26.04:LTS: linux-aws, Ubuntu:26.04:LTS: linux-gcp, Ubuntu:26.04:LTS: linux-gke, Ubuntu:26.04:LTS: linux-realtime

It was discovered that some Arm processors could complete a broadcast
translation lookaside buffer (TLB) invalidation before memory writes made
through the invalidated translation were globally observed. A local
attacker could possibly use this to write to memory after permission to do
so had been revoked, bypassing memory protections or escalating privileges.
(CVE-2025-10263)

Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.
This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems:
  - ARM64 architecture;
  - User-space API (UAPI);
  - Kernel build system;
  - ARM32 architecture;
  - RISC-V architecture;
  - S390 architecture;
