      <title>VAR-200711-0303</title>
      <link>https://vulnerability.circl.lu/vuln/var-200711-0303</link>
<description>&lt;p&gt;Heap-based buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via malformed elements when parsing (1) Poly type (0x0070 through 0x0074) and (2) PackBitsRgn field (0x0099) opcodes in a PICT image. Apple QuickTime contains a stack buffer overflow vulnerability. If exploited, this vulnerability may allow an attacker to execute code. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exist in the parsing of the PackBitsRgn field (Opcode 0x0099). Due to improper handling of a malformed element in the structure, heap corruption occurs. If properly constructed this can lead to code execution running under the credentials of the user. Apple QuickTime is prone to multiple heap-based buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data.
An attacker can exploit these issues by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a specially crafted PICT image file. Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions.
These issues affects Apple QuickTime running on Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP SP2, and Mac OS X. Apple QuickTime is a popular multimedia player that supports a wide variety of media formats. would trigger this overflow, resulting in the execution of arbitrary instructions.
