    <title>CVE-2023-3090 — Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel's ipvlan network driver</title>
    <updated>2026-09-29T13:06:36.336491+00:00</updated>
    <content type="xhtml">
      <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong>Affected:</strong> Linux Kernel</p>
<p>A heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux Kernel ipvlan network driver can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation.</p>
<p>The out-of-bounds write is caused by missing skb-&gt;cb initialization in the ipvlan network driver. The vulnerability is reachable if CONFIG_IPVLAN is enabled.</p>
<p>We recommend upgrading past commit 90cbed5247439a966b645b34eb0a2e037836ea8e.</p></div>

<p>It was discovered that the IP-VLAN network driver for the Linux kernel did
not properly initialize memory in some situations, leading to an out-of-
bounds write vulnerability. An attacker could use this to cause a denial of
service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.(CVE-2023-3090)</p>
<p>Querijn Voet discovered that a race condition existed in the io_uring
subsystem in the Linux kernel, leading to a use-after-free vulnerability. A
local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash)
or possibly execute arbitrary code.(CVE-2023-3389)</p>
<p>It was discovered that the netfilter subsystem in the Linux kernel did not
properly handle some error conditions, leading to a use-after-free
vulnerability. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service
(system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.(CVE-2023-3390)</p>
<p>Mingi Cho discovered that the netfilter subsystem in the Linux kernel did
not properly validate the status of a nft chain while performing a lookup
by id, leading to a use-after-free vulnerability. An attacker could use
this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute
arbitrary code.(CVE-2023-31248)</p>
<p>Shir Tamari and Sagi Tzadik discovered that the OverlayFS implementation in
the Ubuntu Linux kernel did not properly perform permission checks in
certain situations. A local attacker could possibly use this to gain
elevated privileges.(CVE-2023-32629)</p>
